Day 08 – A precious item
This is a tough question. I have lots of books that are precious to me (especially my copies of the His Dark Materials trilogy). My computer is extremely precious to me, as it has all my music, all my photos, everything I've written since the age of 16, and, most importantly, my IRC client and internet access! I have lots of precious paper diaries and art diaries. My old exercise books are precious to me as they're full of scribbled sketches and notes and quotes, and looking back through them is like looking at the story of my life.

It's impossible for me to pick one item out of all of those, though, so I'm going to say something slightly tricky for my answer to this question.

My most precious item is not something tangible. It is my capacity to read, write, talk and listen. I am an intensely verbal person. My favourite things to do all involve words: reading books and blogs, writing, chatting online and talking. If I lost my literacy or ability to comprehend language, I would be miserable, and I would no longer be myself, so that is my most precious item.

Well, we still don't have a government (well, we have a caretaker government, if you want to get technical), and the thought of living in a country run by Tony Abbott is so depressing that I prefer to bury my head in the nearest sandbank. If the election campaign and results were decidedly lacklustre, the election comedy, from the Chaser's latest show (Yes We Canberra) to the collection of links I've been gathering over the past few weeks, are not.

Here are a few of my favourites )

Never has the music of a post seemed so appropriate! I laugh, because it's either that or cry.
