I had friends who contributed in similar ways to junk mail delivery (where it was an adult family member who was hired and paid, but the whole family delivered the leaflets) — I suspect it's rather common, although obviously in your case it was in quite sad and difficult circumstances.

The label job sounds like it would have been reasonably enjoyable, as long as you were able to listen to music or something while doing it!
